IEC61730
Photovoltaic (PV) module safety qualification – Requirements for construction and testing
EC61730 defines the basic construction requirements of photovoltaic modules and also guarantees electrical and mechanical safety during operation. There are specific topics in this standard covering prevention measures for electric shock, fire, and bodily injuries caused by mechanical and environmental effects. IEC61730-1 covers the requirements for construction. IEC61730-2 covers the requirements for testing. Even though this standard attempts to lay down the basic requirements for all types of applications for photovoltaic modules, it cannot include all construction regulations from every country or local area. This standard does not cover photovoltaic module requirements applied to oceanic and terrestrial transportation vehicles and is not applicable to AC photovoltaic modules. The aspect of this standard falls in sequence with the test procedures of IEC61215 and IEC61646, where a single sample unit can be used to evaluate the safety and performance of the photovoltaic module design. This standard is a basic guideline for the construction of photovoltaic modules (under the condition of safety testing by IEC61730-2), and these requirements can be used to reduce errors, misuse of components or damage to the internal components (all of which could cause fire, electric shock, or bodily injuries). This standard lays down basic requirements to guarantee construction safety and the tests related to end usage of the photovoltaic modules.
